Conservation in Brazil - a real Environmental Challenge!
Where you wanna go? Amazon - Fernando de Noronha - Atlantic Forest or Pantanal?

If conservation is your thing - Brazil is a dream destination!
There are arguably more conservation opportunities and issues in Brazil than anywhere else on the planet. And unlike some areas of the world, it is not to late to do something about it!
Primary areas of conservation in Brazil
The Amazon region has the greatest biodiversity in the world in addition to housing around 33% of the planet’s tropical forests. In the past, and up to quite recently in fact, the Amazon region has suffered a great deal from illegal and ill-thought out activity. This has affected not only the ecosystems and biodiversity of the Amazon but of the indigenous populations too. There are very many opportunities to help and learn more about the Amazon – and perhaps there is no better way to do this than to actually go there – contact us today for your chance to both learn about and enjoy, first-hand, The Amazon Rainforest in Brazil.
The Pantanal is a massive flood plain which is actually reasonably well conserved. This is due in no small part to its natural characteristics and ecosystems, primarily because of the difficulties involved in human occupation and intensive and widespread agricultural use. In short, the environment is really its saviour too. However, there are some threats to the Pantanal, such as interfering with the region’s hydrology and climate changes. Would you like to go the Pantanal? Contact us today!
The Caatinga - The biodiversity of The Caatinga is endemic to Brazil, or more correctly, north-east Brazil. Caatinga accounts for a tad over 10%of Brazilian territory, and is basically a shrubland or dry forest, characterised by two seasons; extremely hot and dry followed by extremely hot and wet! 14 to 15 million Brazilians live in the Caatinga regions and due to socio-economic factors are amongst the poorest peoples in Brazil. There are many social and economic programs in place which aims both to help the peoples of the region and to conserve and preserve the unique Caatinga eco-region.
The Atlantic Forest - Is in serious trouble, and hás been for decades, even centuries. When the Portuguese colonized Brazil the Atlantic Forest was more than double the size of France! A mere 8% of the original forest remains – it is very fragmented today, whence it used to run right down the Atlantic coast of Brazil. It was cut down to make way for the big coastal cities and towns, and for the wood of the trees.
Despite the devastation the Atlantic forest remains an important eco-system, has a very diverse biodiversity and a very high ratio of endemic flora and fauna – certainly worth persevering with, particularly, because the trees, flora, fauna and primates are now very endangered.

Conservation in Brazil is one of the great environmental challenges of the modern era. The challenge is huge and varied, not least because of the bio-diversity, there are other obstacles too, such as; geographic and climatic conditions, cultural isolation and economic factors, in addition to around 80% of the land mass enjoying a tropical location. There are already some lost opportunities such as the decimated atlantic forest, of which around 6% of the original forest remains - ...
